Vessel Title Insurance and Vessel Under Construction Lien Insurance
Vessel purchase transactions have relied on registry abstracts of title or legal opinions in the past. Now there is title insurance coverage for owners and lenders insuring marketable title, the priority of a recorded mortgage, and the filing gap from closing to recording. The coverage is modeled after title insurance for real estate transactions. Additionally, owners who contract for the construction of a yacht with U.S. shipyards may now obtain insurance on the attachment, perfection, and priority of the lien to secure their payments in the new Vessel-Under-Construction UCC policy during the construction period. This policy converts upon launch into a Vessel Owner's policy for no additional premium. This program will explain coverage, exclusions from coverage, and procedures.
